U.S. Automakers Close Gap With Overseas Competitors

New J.D. Power and Associates Study Shows No Difference in Quality

The newly released annual J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Initial Quality Survey shows a closing gap between foreign and domestic cars. Over the last two decades, foreign automakers have developed a reputation for producing better cars than their North American competitors - often outranking them in overall value.

But despite years of struggling to compete with their overseas competitors, this year's survey shows General Motors equal to Toyota and Honda in quality and going head-to-head with most other brands. In fact, according to J.D. Power, the only category imports still have a lead over the domestic manufacturers is in Crossovers; but that may soon come to an end as well, as Chevrolet, Ford, Lincoln and Cadillac all roll out new and redesigned Crossovers in the coming months.
