About Tour For Life®
Tour For Life, a program of North Shore Animal League America, is the world's largest cooperative adoption event, with two of the Animal League's Mobile Adoption Units simultaneously crossing the country, in two routes throughout March and April, 2009. Tour For Life, which aims to reinforce the importance and advantages of shelter adoptions, stops in 24 major cities to assist shelters and rescue groups in adopting orphaned pets. Kathryn Erbe, star of TV's Law & Order: Criminal Intent serves as national spokesperson. As a pet parent who adopted from a shelter, she knows firsthand the joys of pet ownership. (AnimalLeague.org)
About SPAY/USA
NASCAR stock car racing superstar Greg Biffle serves as spokesperson for SPAY/USA, a nationwide network and referral service for affordable spay/neuter services and a program of the Animal League. Biffle is championing the prevention of unwanted litters, convinced that by raising awareness more pet owners will follow his lead and alter their pets, in hopes of leading to a dramatic decrease in shelter euthanasia, of which there are approximately 4 million each year. A passionate advocate for animals, Biffle has set an example by neutering and spaying his own dogs. (SpayUSA.org)
About American Mutt-i-grees Club
Reaching out to 25 million owners of mixed-breed dogs, the American Mutt-i-grees Club, a program of the Pet Savers Foundation, the development arm of the Animal League, encourages shelter adoptions as the right choice, and discourages purchases from pet stores supplied by the inhumane puppy mill trade. Three public service announcements each highlight the mission of this life-saving initiative. TV and film Actress Kathryn Erbe, who adopted her mixed-breed dog from a shelter, serves as AMC spokesperson. Teen actor Josh Flitter, aka, Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective, reaches out to the next generation, speaking for Mutt-i-grees Cares, the AMC kid's component. Lomax, the PBS Hound of Music, joins in as spokesdog for this noble effort. (Muttigrees.org)
